The chandelier, with its nostalgic reference to historical archetypes, arouses a sense of longing for the past, while its subtractive nature enhances its suspended presence in a contemporary interpretation. Ornamental decoration has been reduced to a minimum. The central axis, a distinctive element of a traditional chandelier, has disappeared. What remains is actually quite a lot: forty overlapping arms, suspended one above the other, each with a small light at each end.
Born in 1989 in Tel Aviv, Alon Rotman graduated in industrial design in 2021 from the Shenkar School of Design in Ramat Gan, Israel. His design process includes a computer, cigarettes, and time.
